Help Keep Our Alberta RCMP Where They Belong

Despite the provincial government continuing to advance its political agenda, including the push to create an Alberta Police Service, the RCMP keeps proving it’s the best fit for our communities.

The Town of Cochrane demonstrated this on January 5. Their recent independent policing review revealed the strength of the Cochrane RCMP while recommending no change, pointing to one of the lowest Crime Severity Indexes in Canada and strong public confidence in RCMP policing. They also found that replacing the RCMP with a municipal service would cost $5 million to $10 million just to transition, PLUS an additional $1 million to $1.5 million more than the current RCMP annual operating costs.

If the Province pushes forward with replacing the RCMP with a new provincial policing service, the price tag for taxpayers could be enormous. Back in 2021, the government’s own report estimated $372 million in transition costs and another $164 million in annual operating costs for a new provincial police service. Today, there are no updated cost estimates, despite inflation and a major shift in the province’s fiscal reality.

When you look at facts over politics, sticking with the RCMP only makes sense.

Since 2020, the Keep Alberta RCMP campaign has been sharing the facts about policing in Alberta. Thanks to people like you, we’ve built something incredible, but none of this momentum keeps going on its own. Elections Alberta rules mean we can’t fund this work ourselves, and with the possibility of an early provincial election in 2026, your contribution makes it possible for us to get the facts out, challenge misinformation, and stand up for the resources and stability our RCMP Members and communities rely on.

Help us protect our local RCMP Members’ future in Alberta.
